about

Danger to Dream is a tale of trying to wake up from the trance of unworthiness. Of the voices in our heads telling us we should be more, have more. A constant comparison of ourselves to the influences we consume and how very bad that can make us feel. Our belief in a separate self has never been so exaggerated as it is now. Both our culture and upbringing provide the breeding ground for this epidemic of feeling deficient and unworthy. The dread and heartbreak one experiences as a result, leads us to search for a crutch. An antidepressant, a successful social media post, sex, alcohol, anything for the hit of dopamine that temporarily makes everything ok again, even if just for a moment. Fear of failure and rejection feeds addictive behaviour. We become trapped in workaholism—an endless striving to accomplish—and we over consume to numb the persistent presence of fear. We reinvent ourselves, we try again and again, we seek hope and ambition but when even the cost of living is barely attainable, we find ourselves questioning whether it is even safe to dream.

lyrics

It’s a danger to dream
I had a dangerous dream
Even though I tried, I can’t lose the fear
Or loosen up my pride, I’ve kept all these years

I’m so tired of this scene
And all identities I’ve been
Might just be my luck, I never use my head
A little bit moonstruck, always pulling at the thread

The danger of a dream is that is kills your dopamine
So that you put shit in your veins until you feel like yourself again
It fools ya
Oh hallelujah

Some people do It just for kicks
A kiss of hope stained on my lips
Another second chance, I know I’ve had a few
But now I know the dance and which steps I must undo

The danger of a dream is that is kills your dopamine
So that you put shit in your veins until you feel like yourself again
It fools ya
Oh hallelujah

The danger of a dream is that is kills your dopamine
So that you put shit in your veins until you feel like yourself again
It fools ya
Oh hallelujah
